SYRLJ

South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice [SYRLJ] is a locally led and run, non-political and non-denominational group of volunteers. Its members include lawyers, students, people experienced in the asylum field and those who are new to it. Some are refugees.

Who they are:

  • A volunteer run charity
  • A free service for people seeking asylum who need help to support their claim for asylum and who are unable to get a solicitor
  • Part of the Sheffield City of Sanctuary network, working closely with other organisations in South Yorkshire that support people seeking asylum

What they do:

  • Provide legal advice about people’s claims for asylum
  • Help with research about the country a person has fled from, to explain why they cannot return
  • Help find evidence that clients may need to support a new asylum claim
