Night shelter volunteers needed

We are urgently in need of new night shelter volunteers - if you could help out one or two nights a month, please contact us at: volunteer@assistsheffield.org.uk

The ASSIST night shelter offers emergency accommodation to refused asylum-seekers. Volunteers welcome people as they arrive, have a chat and a cup of tea, and then everyone goes to sleep on mattresses on the floor. We need two volunteers every weeknight, between 10pm and 8am, to enable the shelter to stay open. The shelter is open to men and women (in separate rooms) and we have a particular need for male volunteers at the moment.

Mark, one of our night shelter volunteers writes:

When I arrive home, greeting my children and partner as they are waking up in their bedrooms before heading down for breakfast, I often find myself thinking how I might manage in a situation where I have been forced to leave my own home, family and country to find the government of the country I have arrived in unwelcoming. I think I would really appreciate anyone able to give up a night at home to ensure I am safe, comfortable and greeted by a friendly face at the night shelter.
