During my working life I worked at a number of British universities, lecturing in Social Policy and carrying out research into poverty, inequality and employment. I have a Ph.D in Sociology and I have published a number of books, papers and reports. I am now retired. Whilst employed I was also a member of the National Lottery Charities Board/ Community Fund from 1998-2003. I have been involved in a range of political campaigns focused on women’s lives, welfare rights, and education. I joined ASSIST Sheffield as a volunteer minute taker in 2022 and became a Trustee in 2025.
