Destitute Asylum Seekers
Are you destitute and homeless?
We may be able to help. The ASSIST Help Desk operates at the Victoria Hall Drop-in every Wednesday afternoon between 2-4pm. Here you find other asylum seekers in your situation waiting to explain their situation.
Due to limited resources, there is a limited number of people that we can help at any given time. We try to prioritise helping those who are most needy such as people who with serious medical problems or those in late stages of pregnancy. It is for this reason that we ask everybody to understand that although we will try our best to help, there are times (especially this difficult financial period) when we have to say 'NO we cannot help.'
After being seen at help desk, forms filled-in there will be sent for assessment by a team of compassionate people who will see who is deserving. Some people will be recommended for help, others will unfortunately be turned down. However, do not dispare. Assist will try to sign-post you to other organisations that can possibly help.
We would like to thank our donors, supporters and the general public for their great response when we pleaded for more money because our cash flow levels had become precarious.
