A number of second-hand bicycles have been given via ASSIST to destitute asylum seekers and asylum seekers on section 4 voucher support. We have only given subsidised bus passes to the most needy, and this is an alternative way of enabling individuals to get around, to improve their fitness and well being.
We have been given the use of a lockable storage space, and have been greatly helped by a group in Burngreave who meet monthly to repair and maintain bicycles.
People have recovered bicycles from their cellars and from skips, and this team has put together usable bikes from damaged and incomplete cycles. Ash Ghinn, our bicycle volunteer coordinator is helping us develop the scheme further.
